Dodie is an alter ego of mine. She was invented in 1981 as a dresser in my “Grandmother Series.” Gradually she became transformed into a woman who had a little space between her head and her neck the way a dresser sometimes does.

I have painted little pictures of Dodie and big paintings for Dodie, in a variety of circumstances. She has had adventures in Maine, at Dorland Art Colony in Temecula, California, and in my studio. She has been made into a children’s book too. When I can think of nothing to paint, I can paint some Dodie pictures.
